Structural engineer cost for foundation problems

For a large structural repair, an independent engineer can separate diagnosis from the company selling the repair. Current national inspection pricing is usually hundreds of dollars, not thousands, for a standard residential assessment.

What you are paying for

A foundation-focused engineer typically reviews visible distress, floor or wall movement, drainage clues and structural conditions, then documents findings and recommendations. Complex drawings or stamped plans are a separate scope.

Why independence matters

If a repair company both defines the failure and sells the fix, there is an obvious commercial incentive. An independent engineer can give you a scope to bid against before you compare contractors.

Ask about deliverables before booking

Confirm whether the fee includes a written report, photos, measurements, repair recommendations, follow-up questions and any required stamp or plan set.
